Terrence
This is not really an article, rather a warning of one of the latest scams coming out of Africa that I feel people should be aware of. I appologise to SearchWarp in advance for using their site to post this warning, but the more people that are aware of these corrupt practices the less harm and damage they will cause.
I receieved via facebook an unsolicited email informing me that I was the next of kin of a $8,000,000 inheritence. Below you will find the last draft of the perperetrator of the scam.
There is a small minority within the vast, majestic and noble continent of Africa that have an agenda that is completely out of sync with the tide of justice, equality and a fairer and more just way to live that seems to be sweeping across the world right now.
Their agenda is self enrichment at any cost. These are intelligent and articulate individuals, but lacking any higher human values. They will lie, cheat, steal, or do whatever it takes in the persuit of one thing and one thing only, getting rich.
I went along with this scam, just to see how these people operate and below you will find the most recent draft I received from the scammer together with my blowing my cover and informing the scammer that I was aware of the nature of the scam.
This is the orriginal unsolicited letter........Ouite tempting, yes?

YOU GUYS;
Are the scum of the earth. Even as I write this, people are fighting and dying to obtain dignity and a right to live a better and more honourable life and you guys? Your contribution to making the world a better place? That notion has never even entered your maggot infested heads has it, no, you will go through life trying to enrich yourselves in any way you can without any thought to the misery you cause in your wake.
I,ll tell you something, the world is changing, yes even in Africa and sooner, or later the new order will catch up with you, it might not be today and it might not be tomorrow, but the time is coming and you will stand alone amongst your like.
The takers, the totally corrupt, the heartless and the minority, that you represent need to move fast cheat, steal and grab want you can, because mankinds evolution is going to overtake you and sooner than you realise.
Dear Terrance Aubrey,
I have read through your email that you have sent and I can see from all indications that you are very careful and cautious person and those who approach issues with such carefulness as you have exhibited not only live long enough but win each race of life. In direct answer I will HONESTLY AND TRUTHFULLY RESPOND AS BELOW:
1) Please be informed that here in our country Togo, there is a lawful government of the people, there is the constitution of the country as such there is an established LAW AND ORDER which every citizen is bound to abide in. There is also the police, army, and there is a prison facility. The point am making is that HERE IS NO MAN'S LAND where people can do anything and get away with it. No No.
2) On the strength of the above paragraph, I WILL BE THE MOST STUPID LAWYER ON EARTH IF I SHOULD EMBARK ON THIS KIND OF TRANSACTION WITHOUT MAKING SURE OF SUCCESS AT THE END OF THE DAY. Of course, there is no way at my age as a lawyer, experience and position in the society can I get myself involved this claim in the first place if I think it was tress-passing and implicating. (I am old, married with four children and now a grand father of 2, I have been in the bar association of Republic of Togo for years) so by all means I have a reputation I cannot just tarnish.
On your part, there is NO DIRECT CRIMINAL IMPLICATIONS. I, as the lawyer to the deceased will recommend and introduce you to the management of the bank as NEXT OF KIN TO THE DECEASED. The moment I make the introduction officially, then on the part of the management of the bank it will be ACCEPTED WITHOUT QUESTIONING because they have no way to prove otherwise.
Again, according to our Probate law and constitution, a NEXT OF KIN (DOES NOT NECCESSARILY MEAN BIOLOGICALLY RELATED RELATION). Here, a next of kin goes further to mean a friend, a loved one, a most trusted person or a close confidentant. So by our own law and definition of the meaning of NEXT OF KIN, YOU ARE PERFECTLY IN A POSITION TO REPRESENT AS NEXT OF KIN TO MY DECEASED CLIENT. So you have nothing to worry about as there is no tress-passing on your part.
Again, here is the information about my late client with the following details:
1) Mr. George Aubrey (Late).
2)Age - 64 years
3) Address: 101 RUE DE Mono , Togo Lome Africa .
4) Profession: Independent/Registered Contractor (Businessman ).
I advise you to forward information to me for proceeding of this matter.
(1) your full name
(2) your full address
(3) your occupation
(4) your age ans sex
(5) your telephone and fax number--
Call me on as soon as possible for further directives and guideline.
Very truly yours,
Ben David (ESQ).

More commentsHiya Marijo, yes it seems to be quite an industry. Perhaps it is time to introduce some kind of policing of the internet? A very sensitive issue I know and for sure it is something that would need much care and sensitivity in creating, but putting a stop to scams like this would not in 2011 be that difficult. It is easy to trace an IP, a computers passport almost and it would be equaly easy to contact the government of the country from which the IP orriginates asking them to check it out.......Any government unwilling to cooperate could be blacklisted, together with the IP,s orriginating from said country. All of this could be achieved quite easily without endangering the freedom of the www.
Wow!! This guy has some nerve. I guess that's why they're called Con (confidence) men, right?
Terence,
Hello from Dublin,
Everytime I receive a scam like this...I write back & tell those that sent it that I have enough money at present & request that they send my nice new inheritence or lottery win to a charity of their choice. Or spend it themselves if they are in need of money. Then I end my mail like this; "Please, if you ever find any more money you find in my name, would you please make sure it's real first, & secondly make sure you're real also, because in reality I think you're true fakes like my inheritence & lottery wins you say I have come into". Goodbye now, "oh & please don't forget to go & buy that new Mercedes you so badly want with your OWN money, when you get a REAL proper job". Now "Get Lost" in the mire of things.
Out of Africa - scam scum is on the dating sites too; example Aficans use white photo images and say they are living in England. Ask for money for Orphanages. They are looking for easy money, have you noticed that they attempt to portray themselves as super religious! A can of worms for sure, but the more people aware of their efforts will equal deminishing returns for them. Thats a plus!
I've got the same email, but with different names. Thanks for this publish, can't believe I almost fell for it, damn. Its the downside of the internet, glad that my publish saved you some misfortune.
I work in the cleaning and restoration industry and there are scams there as well. I have receive the one Terrence posted in many shapes and forms. The one I deal with attacks people who clean oriental, persian, and other rugs. A person claims to have several large rugs(very expensive ones) that they need cleaned and wants a quote. The emailer gives a credit card, but claims that the shipper needs to be paid in cash or check, and asks to charge the shipping as well on the card. What is happening is they've stolen credit card numbers, and receive the cash/check. When the REAL owner of the card disputes the charges, you're out the cleaning price plus the shipping(which cannot be gotten back). Shipping 8-10 large orientals is EXPENSIVE(900-1500).Thanks for sharing Steven.
There is clearly a golden rule for internet users.
If it seems to good to be true it most probably is and that applies across the full spectrum of online activity.hey sir , the same joke has been told to me 2 weeks ago still going with his joke right now !! well he said the same address as the one in ur article but changing the dates and the name of the dead one to match with my family name keep on telling people to be aware . but this time his name is Mark Williams with a different cell phone number !!
the mail i received contains the same words as the one u received months ago.
tc
I got the same offer in my box yesterday ))) It was fun, cos I replied to writter "what should I do to get that inheritance?" and then i received the great deal of directions what to do and even the scan of attorney`s passport ))) black-skinned young guy.. probably it was the fake, or passport was just stolen

It is my belief that my above explanation will give you peace of mind and encourage you to co-operate with me fully so that we can get the said amount transferred to your account without further delay.
Finally, to enable me forward a formal letter to the bank introducing you as the next of kin I would be grateful if you provide me with the following information's and documents: There is no atom of risk involved.
(1) your full name
(2) your full address
(3) your occupation
(4) your age
According to Wiki Togo ranks 156th on the Gross National Happiness scale. Furthermore, the gross primary enrollment rate was 119.6%, and they won a bronze metal in the Kayak slalom. Just thought you needed a little background on this most excellent home for lawyers.
