Tough Times

Terrence
Times are tough, no doubt about that, but could it be worse?
How are you, how are you coping with the shifting sands of life in the new millenium?
Do you have a family, or friends around you? If yes, ten out of ten.
Do you have a roof over your head? If yes, ten out of ten.
Do you have enough to eat? If yes, ten out of ten.
Sure the system as we know it is damaged and broken, but then from our new found understanding of how the system works, was that not inevitable?
The most important question is can something better come out of this mini financial armagedon?
The majority of people of planet earth did not much notice the financial crisis, they were preoccupied with the business of keeping their families alive, day by day.
Maybe we should be immensely grateful for what we have, rather than being depressed about what we have lost, or might have gained?

More commentsI affirm the same thing to myself every minute of the day Terence. Whenever I feel like complaining about the food, or house condition or my clothes, I always come back to myself and say there are millions out there who get nothing and are suffering to death. Thank you.DMYes, DM we prefer to live in our self created world (as I am sure you know) and see life and our part within it, from that perspective, ignorant of that which we really are. So the blind lead the blind......for the moment.
Very interesting Terrence, I agree with most of what you said, we have become spoiled and think we are owed a luxurious living. I am not concerned. I know that my tour is about over but I fear for the younger ones. Too many think that they should simply loaf, smoke pot and keep their hands out for gimmies. It isn't going to work like that.Whilst I understand your point, surely the young must through logic be the future? I remember living through the whole "Hippy" thing personally and I was convinced that society was on the road to no where and abstained, but somewhere I became drawn in, but in retrospection my rebellious instinct was quite accurate.
What fuure does the current young generation see? Can we blame their feelings of hopeless apathy?
Good advice to be thankful for what we have. Good article Terrence.Thank you Brianna. We all suffer from not seeing the wood for the trees it seems.
Terrence Aubrey, I'm young and India, can not understand your thoughts.Still can share my thoughts.
the richest people live in more complex societies where there is more to worry about your thoughts as hard times in old age compared to people in poor societies joint family, as in India. More than 90% people India live in joint family.
I asked an old man who lives in a poor family in my town neighbor, how much wealth he has? How much wealth, pension and medical insurance, he have. He said everything I have , have given to my children and I have no pension or medical insurance, I am confident my son will keep my care until death.
Has roof over your head? I'll play to live in whatever is given by my son.
Do you have enough to eat? I'll play to eat what is given by my son.
Do you have either an income or a job? I do not need, I just want to play and care of my son grandchildren.
I felt it Happy man and gave him - ten out of ten.
In old age, love of children and living with them is more useful, then wealth. Death is certain for all.Yours is a very beautiful and profound comment Gaurav.
I am sorry that you did not understand my thoughts, but I appreciate yours. Those grandchildren are very, very lucky to be growing up in the influence of someone that has a lifetime of learning to share and he is lucky to have the opportunity to share his knowledge.
Yes I agree with you ten from ten.
Those living on the streets have excess to soup kitchens more than these undeveloped third world countries, we must count our blessings.Good article TerrenceNice comment David, yes you are right things could be worse, but equally they could be better.
You're right Terrence, it is always better to be thankful for what we have than to disparage about what we don't. I think thought that for us that can be thankful for what we have, our minds should be clearest to help come up with answers to help mitigate the reasons that persist for the many that don't. Nice article.
Your comments are always profound David. I enjoy reading them. Yes ultimately our perception of whether our glass is half full, or half empty is a very personal one and effects us individually, but if we are not over preoccupied with ourselves and "Our needs" we are more able to reach out to help others.
We truly do have so much to be thankful for, don't we? Thanks for spotlighting this.Actually yes and in my opinion even for those that cannot atain those ten from tens, because actually there is much more to being alive than surviving and in truth that list represents surviving and nothing more, but are we here simply to survive? This entire creation exists so that we can survive and get on in the world?
I simply cannot believe that to be the truth, the mystery behind what we think of as our existence, but what value that realisation I wonder. I suspect even the richest man in the world cannot buy it!
Thank you for your comment Marijo and please excuse me from diverging somewhat from my original premise.
Hi Terrence. It was tough for the first five months of last year when we had no income. But now we can answer yes to all of your questions and I've no complaints. Actually, I didn't really even have complaints in the beginning of last year. We just economized all over the place. We are healthy and happy and what more do you need really?Hugs, DianneYes Dianne, all you need is love dum, de dum de dum. Showing my age here. Actually anything that wakes us up to appreciating what we have in, contrast to yearning for that which we have not, is a good thing, right?ABSOLUTELY!
What a blessing it would be if more people would grasp the simple concept you are espousing!Thank you for your comment Chris. It is something that I need to remember regularly also.
