Wisdom.

I was very fortunate that during my formative years I was able to share a lot of time with my grandfather. A very wise grandfather. What I remember most, even now were not his tales and stories (and they were legion), but his observations and perceptions of the events that he had experienced.

There is a misconception that wisdom can come with the passing of years. I do not believe this at all. How many people continue to repeat the same mistakes until they leave this world and conversely how often have you heard very young children, quite unselfconsciously utter gems of wisdom?

So how do we accumulate wisdom, or become wise. Well actually we cannot and that is one of the first things I learnt, wisdom is.

Some 5,000 years ago in the ancient Vedic scriptures it is written that when Braham (their name of God) breathes out the universe is created and when Braham breathes in the universe is destroyed. They were describing what scientists took 5,000 years to discover, the big bang theory, the creation of the universe. How did they know?

Somehow, someway they discovered this and so very long ago! Now I might well be wrong here, but I have not heard of any scientific explanation, or study of from where, or how life has originated and I do not refer to evolution, or how life began in some post volcanic primodial sludge. No I mean life. This seems a strange omission to me, much as counting from 0 to 10, but disregarding the zero, the most important number of all! This seems a very strange omission.

Now what if a spark of creation exists within us, within each one of us, in fact within all life on earth. If you can accept the fact, or at least the possibility that we are much more than a collection of bones and organs marvellously directed and coordinated by a brain, then the doors of perception are truly opened.

If this is so, it means that within each and every one of us is a wisdom unfathomable, indefinable and indescribably beautiful. This is a source of wisdom that cannot be taught in any school, or university, why? Because this wisdom is deep, very deep within and beyond our body, mind, or intellect. We are talking of a spark of infinity, a spark that all the great saints throughout history have alluded too and to try to grasp that with our very finite intellect has and never will succeed. An ant is more likely to win a sumo wrestling competition with an elephant.

If we can bypass our plans, ambitions, hopes, dreams and fears. If we can go beyond our, oh so busy mind with its plans, schemes and opinions. If we can go deep, very deep within inside of ourselves, then maybe, by the grace of God we can connect with a wisdom so profound, so deep and so breathtakingly beautiful that our lives will be transformed.

Wisdom is more than the absence of ignorance.

Great article. Scientists have explained how they believe life originated, however many choose not to believe it. There are many places you can find these explanations, one is Richard Dawkins on the origin of life in a 5 part series that you can find on you tube. Seems to me that wisdom, is the search for wisdom. Scientists didn't know 2000 years ago that we couldn't fall off of the edge of the earth, but I think we have ample knowledge now that most people believe that we can not. All depends on where your journey ends, I guess.

Great David! The wisdom beyond universes and material phenomena is inside all of us. Beyond time, beyond space, beyond all imagination and thinking. It can be accessed, but one will never be able to tell anyone about it. The dues for this wisdom is everything that one is familiar with. Only through the doorway of emptiness can this wisdom be known. This is what deep meditation is all about. This is what can change the world. One deep meditator will affect all people located within many miles. Many deep meditators in one location can affect an entire city. If only one percent of the earth's population meditated at absorption levels, the world would change from stupidity and hatred to wisdom and compassion. But these kind of comments are usually made the butt of jokes, at best, and considered threatening to the status quo at worst where people with advanced consciousness's have been physically or psychologically harmed. It took the Catholic Church 300 years to forgive science for screwing up their dogma by proving that the earth wasn't the center of the universe. The lower consciousness is extremely dangerous in a nuclear armed world.

Fantastic comment Raymond, you do not waste words, go straight to the heart of the matter and I completely agree with you. It seems to me that we are alive at a pivitol moment in time, some might say that we approach judgement day, but not perhaps as many think it will be. I have steered clear of criticism of organised religion, but I have commented that I am unaware of any spiritual master that has come here to set up a religion, no on the contary they simply tried to share the joy, wisdom and oneness of all that they found within themselves. I appreciate both your clear words and contribution to what should be the greatest debate on earth!

Good comment David. We have progressed spiritually very little it seems to me, but have advanced in leaps and bounds technologically and this is fundamentally why we mankind have become the greatest danger to life on earth. Would we allow babies to play with guns, fire? Spiritually and in terms of awareness we are as babies........

Hi Terrence. I believe that all are made in the image of God therefore we all should treat one another with the dignity and respect this deserves....this I believe is the beginning of all wisdom.

Thankyou for commenting on the article Craig. I was trying to suggest that we cannot comprehend the infinite with our finite capabilities, but we can go beyond our limitations and experience within the beauty of creation that exists within each of us.

What the world needs now is love and to look inward for answers is pure wisdom. You are on the right track, Terrence.

Thank you for commenting Mary, yes we have lots of all sorts of stuff right now, religious conflict, economic problems, etc., etc., but love, the big love, as against the "I,ll love you if you love me", kind off love, is still in short supply.

I like David's idea that wisdom is the search for wisdom. In psychology, the real crazy people are the ones who don't realize they have a problem. (you know who I am talking about!) Wisdom is, in part, a self awareness of your actions and thoughts in relation to your environment.

Interesting, many people throughout history have been regarded as dangerous and crazy, why? They have questioned the very foundations of the societies that they were born into and in effect challenged the status quo. This actually was why Jesus Christ was put to death. Your definition of wisdom is in my opinion fundamentally flawed, but equally I respect your contribution.

I'm not sure I agree with everything you said, but that could be because I'm a simple man. It surely would be a good thing if what you say is true.

Well Abe you may well be a simple man, that I do not know, but you are clearly open to new possibilities and that is a rare gift! Thank you for commenting.

Wonderful article. I love this: "Now what if a spark of creation exists within us, within each one of us, in fact within all life on earth. I was having a discussion recently with a mentor about what understanding a concept actually meant. When I read your writing, it is like having a conversation with my mentor. Thought provoking, designed to make one question their own definitions, and expansive in stretching perceptions.

Thank you so much.

I,m pleased that the message that I was trying to convey got through to you. From some reactions to the article it seems some people thought I was threatening their very beliefs, or lifestyle.

You know I personally find it ironic that seemingly one of the hardest things for a human to achieve is stillness.

Very nice article. I love the positive spin you put on this. I'm referring to your paragraph about going beyond our busy minds.

Thanks for your comment. Though actually going beyond our busy minds is not so easy. Mr

E Raymond Rock writes some very articulate and positive articles here on Search Warp expounding the benefits and virtues of meditation, but I do know that many folk give up meditation at the first hurdle.

Why? The human mind is like the genie in the bottle, always busy and seeking new ways to please us and to achieve real meditation we must find a way of keeping that genie occupied.

You are so right about the difficulty of quieting, or at least ignoring, our busy minds. Pretty neat when we do though.

Very wise article.... My own belief and knowledge is that in the beginning- before anything- there was God- who is life itself- God breathes in and out, and creates his own essence- life in the universe- we have no way of knowing how many universes God has breathed, and try as we may, we cannot imagine eternity.- Thanks for an interesting piece- Always- Ella

Absolutely right Ella. I love the possibility that actually this universe as we know it could actually be but a mite of dust within another universe, it could be! Equally it really does not matter, we are here now, so how are we going to fill the time?

Become the most important banker? The best window cleaner? Mr, or Miss Universe for a year?

Whilst there is absolutely wrong with any of the above aspirations, gaining some understanding of why we are here seems to me personally a quite good idea.

I think just by reading the newspaper for 20 minutes a day helps your wisdom. You have to read different topics to gain new knowledge. Don't read the same sections each time, switch it up.
